The AsianConnections.com team includes award-winning writers who have a passion for
writing stories that directly affect our Asian American communities, as well as stories that help to
inform and engage others who want to learn more about our diverse Asian American cultures,
lifestyles and people.
AsianConnections viewers have unprecedented access to some of the top
experts and celebrities in the world.
A young junior high school student searching for his roots named Michael Kai originally developed the web
site. He created it as a personal project to help empower people to connect globally
and to help take the Asian experience mainstream.
Kai was
14 when he developed the online community to
celebrate the achievements and portray Asian people in real
life, as diverse, multi-dimensional people rather than the
stereotypes most commonly found in mainstream media.
With
a significant part of the world population being of Asian
descent, from the very beginning, the humble web site created a positive movement with
people from all walks of life, from New York to Shanghai to
Tokyo who share his vision.
The response also has been tremendous
from people learning for the first time about Asian culture,
business, trends and lifestyle to celebrities, entrepreneurs
and international corporations offering mentoring, good deeds
and connections to help improve the personal and professional
lives of people.
San Francisco Mayor Willie L. Brown inaugurated AsianConnections.com with Mike in 1998 during
a trade mission to China. Mayor Brown praised Mike before press, business
and government leaders for his initiative in creating a bridge
for people, cultures and countries.
As a teenager, Mike directed numerous initiatives, including
the
first bilingual Hollywood celebrity simulcast, with action film star Jet Li, produced
and syndicated by AsianConnections.com for U.S. and Asian
markets, sponsored by Warner Bros.
Mike went on to go to Yale and as a senior won the Grand Prize for an annual innovation competition sponsored by the Yale Entrepreneurs Society. He is now leading his dream internet start-up to enable people to create and manage their own websites fast and free. While we all cheer him on, we thank him for his legacy of creating AsianConnections. Today,
thanks to his early vision and activism, AsianConnections.com
is proud to have advisors, partners and writers from many disciplines
including business, news, ecommerce, education, law, government,
food, travel, health, feng shui, music, sports and entertainment
worlds. |
