Hot times, summer in the city. Don't miss the very cool lineup of films organized by Asian Cinevisions for the 28th Asian American International Film Festival screening at the Asia Society and the IFC Film Center in New York and the Cinema Arts Center on Long Island from July 15-31, 2005. It is Americas longest running Asian American festival featuring over 100 films and videos from Australia, Asia, Europe, Canada, and the United States.
On the opening night of the festival, July 15th, International Icon Maggie Cheung will be on hand to receive the CineVisionary Award after a screening of Olivier Assayas' CLEAN starring Cheung for which she received the coveted Palm d'Or for Best Actress at Cannes 2004. Highlights of the two-week festival include a mini-retrospective of her films: Ann Hui's SONG OF THE EXILE, Peter Chan's COMRADES: ALMOST A LOVE STORY and Johnnie To's HEROIC TRIO; in addition to screenings of Oxide Pangs AB-NORMAL BEAUTY, horror master Miike Takashis IZO; Mike Kangs THE MOTEL; a live performance by violin prodigy CHUAN YUN LI, music videos, panels and workshops, networking receptions, and parties galore!
