Tina Chen returns to the stage in the New York Premiere of Chungmi Kim's, Comfort Women , directed by Frances Hill at Urban Stages through Nov. 28. Jade Wu, Jo Yang, Haerry Kim and Ji-Young Kim are also featured in the cast.
Chungmi Kims lyrical play depicts the collision of past and present when a young Korean NYU student and her grandmother meet two comfort women during the 1994 UN protests. During World World II, comfort women was the term used for the thousands of young women abducted and used as sex slaves by the Japanese Imperial Forces.
Ms. Chen has starred on the New York stage in Empress of China , The Joy Luck Club , Arthur and Leila , A Midsummer Night's Dream , and David Henry Hwang's Family Devotions . She received a Golden Globe nomination for The Hawaiians and has appeared in the films Arthur Penn's Alice's Restaurant , and Sydney Pollack's Three Days of the Condor . On television, she played the title role in Lady From Yesterday and was nominated for an Emmy Award for The Final War Of Olly Winter .
