Filipina American Rona Par is directing Neiges dAntan (Snows of Yesterday), a two-woman theater piece featuring award-winning performer Yazmine Fleming (who is half Filipino) and Elizabeth Ackerman opening September 14 at Armory Northwest in Pasadena.

Neiges dAntan (Snows of Yesterday) steps beyond the boundaries of cabaret entertainment to become a theatre piece performed by two women. Through their portrayal of multiple and at times conflicting aspects of a single character, the two performers expose and rework the subtle power dynamics inherent in the singer-accompanist relationship. What emerges is unexpected, irreverent and playful. Songs to be performed include Lonely House, Surabaya Johnny, Ballad of the Soldiers Wife, and other songs from The Threepenny Opera.
Why Weill? Mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Ackerman was inspired by Weill at a young age when she heard Lotte Lenya sing Weills work: This was not opera---it was something completely different---where the emotion, the story, the theater were more relevant [than the voice].
Spoken word is minimal and the songs are everything in Neiges dAntan.
Ms. Ackerman, a graduate of UC Berkeley, has sung in Dido and Aeneas, Die Fledermaus and , for Contemporary Opera of Los Angeles,Cindy Lou. Also an actor, she appeared in Eight Simple Rooms at the Secret Rose Theater.
Award-winning pianist Yazmine C. Fleming, has performed at many venues in the area, including the Japan-America Theatre, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Getty Center, and the San Gabriel Civic Light Opera. She received her Masters of Music Degree from Kent State University.
