October 8, 2019 Hollywood   Actor Tim Lounibos wrote on his Facebook page  about the positive changes he is currently experiencing in Hollywood. We caught up with him to share his thoughts with us. Asian Americans have historically found limited opportunities as actors in movies and television in Hollywood, but fortunately for Tim he had a great start as a busy actor in the 1990s, but then his career went off a cliff - temporarily.  We thank Tim for sharing his...

Astronaut Leroy Chiao's Space Blog-Corrientes, Argentina

This is a good example of what is possible using space-based astronaut photography.

This is a very striking photo. It was taken using a hand-held 800mm lens. With the longer lenses, one must develop the technique of matching the earth's rotation during the composition of the photo. We shoot at 1/500 s, aperture priority, but even so, one must compensate to prevent smearing of the image. Adequate lighting and atmospheric conditions are also factors. In this case, it all came together. You can see the sunglint on the river, which reveals very sharply, the flow and subsurface flow patterns of the water. The bridge is well-defined as are the individual streets of the city. This is a good example of what is possible using space-based astronaut photography.

Astronaut Leroy Chiao's Space Blog-Salamat Basin in Chad

Astronaut Leroy Chiao's Space Blog-Salamat Basin in Chad: This is one of my favorite shots. I used a 400mm lens and caught this piece of the Salamat Basin in Chad. The different colors of the sand form an interesting contrast to the rock structures. The tops of the rock look as if they have been sanded down to the same height, while the sides are rough and jagged. There is something very appealing about this one.

Our orbit does not currently take us over Southeast Asia during daylight, so I have not been able to observe or photograph the devastation. Sounds awful.
